KENT, Ohio – The Western Michigan track and field team wrapped up the opening day of competition at the Doug Raymond Invitational at Kent State University on Friday evening.
The top individual finish of the day came by fifth-year senior Taylor Eaton in the weight throw. Eaton tossed a distance of 55' 9" (17.01m) to finish in fourth place. WMU also placed two athletes in the top right of the 5,000-meter run. Senior Kailyn Mince took fifth overall with a time of 18:17.88, a new career-best. Soper finished in eighth place with a time of 18:31.94.
Sophomore Trinity Bracey and freshman Azariah McGee-Grantham turned in top-10 performances in the 200-meter dash. It was a photo finish between the two for eighth and ninth place. Bracey edged out her teammate by .003 seconds, running a 25.367 and McGee-Grantham running a 25.369.
Securing spots in tomorrow's finals for the 60-meter hurdles was sophomores Ahvon Mitchell and Grace Johnson. Mitchell the fifth-best qualifying time of 8.76 seconds and Johnson was just behind her at 8.80.
There was a three-team race in the 4x800-meter relay and WMU's group of Maggie Raab, Annalise James, Claira Gilchrist and Rebecca McNamee turned in a first-place time of 9:44.49.
