Men's Soccer Hosts BGSU to Conclude Home Conference Play

KALAMAZOO, Mich. – Come on out to support the Western Michigan men's soccer team as it hosts the Bowling Green State University Falcons to conclude its home conference play at the WMU Soccer Complex on Wednesday, Nov. 2 with a 4 p.m. kickoff!!

LAST WEEK
The Broncos are looking to add to their three-game winning streak after they beat Chicago State on the road 2-1 on Saturday. The Cougars opened the scoring early, breaking the deadlock just six minutes into the game with a strike from Cal-Wayne Allen. Just before the halftime whistle, Jordan Walker tucked away a rebounded shot from Charlie Sharp for the Broncos' crucial equalizer. Despite the momentum switch going into halftime, the winner came as late as the 84th minute, a header from Bronco defender Daniel Nimick. This would not only be Nimick's sixth goal of the season, but also his third game-winning goal.  WMU outshot CSU 18-5, with 10 of those shots on target. Multiple Broncos registered shots: Charlie Sharp led with five, Daniel Nimick and Dylan Sing both tallied three, Eric Conerty and Carson Hodgson had two, and finally, Jordan Walker, Mike Melaragni, and Matt Lockwood each registered one shot. 
 
Western Michigan (12-2-1, 4-1-1 MAC) sits second in the Mid-American Conference, outshooting its opponents 233-109 with 110-233 of its shots on goal, earning a shot-on-goal percentage of 0.472. WMU has tallied 35 goals this season, led by Sharp (9), Nimick (6), Sing (5), Melaragni (4), and Conerty (3). Goalkeeper Hunter Morse records six goals against, 39 saves, and 11 total shutouts.  
 
SCOUTING THE FALCONS
The Falcon's match against Northern Illinois University on Tuesday, Oct. 25 ended in a 3-1 win. Josh Erlandson scored a pair of goals for the Falcons, while Joey Akpunonu found the back of the net as well. Akupnonu's header off a free kick gave BGSU a 1-0 halftime lead. Erlandson then added a pair of goals in the second half off of set pieces. 
 
Bowling Green (5-4-5, 3-1-2 MAC) sits third in the MAC, outshooting its opponents 191-124 with 73-191 of its shots on goal, earning a shot-on-goal percentage of 0.105. BGSU has tallied 20 goals this season, led by Akpunonu with five, Sergi Martinez, Alberto Anaya, Erlandson, and Andrew Shaffer all with three. Goalkeeper Brendan Graves records eight goals against, 36 saves, and six total shutouts.
 
ON THE HORIZON
Western Michigan heads on the road, traveling to Akron University for its second matchup this season against the Falcons on Sunday, Nov. 5 for a 6 p.m. kickoff. The match will be streamed on ESPN+.
