CLEVELAND – Western Michigan senior guard Lamar Norman Jr. has been selected to the Preseason All-MAC First Team, the league office announced on Wednesday.  
 
Norman was the leading scorer in the Mid-American Conference last season at 19.8 points per game, and 20.8 points per contest in league play. The Grand Rapids, Mich., native netted double-digit points in 28 of the 30 games he played in during the 2021-22 campaign, including a 24-game double-digit scoring streak that spanned from mid-November to late February. Norman was the only player in the league to post four games of 30+ points, and had 20 or more points 15 times, second-most in the conference. He led the Broncos in scoring 25 times.
 
The season was a record-breaking one for Norman, as he set a single-season WMU program record by making 101 three-pointers. His average of 3.4 made three-pointers per game led the conference and tied for ninth nationally.
 
In addition to his scoring exploits, Norman averaged 3.1 rebounds per contest, led Western Michigan in assists with 54, and tied for the team lead with 25 steals.
 
The conference office also announced the results of its preseason coaches poll on Wednesday, with Kent State voted as the preseason favorite, followed by reigning regular season champion Toledo. Western Michigan was picked to finish eighth in the conference by the coaches. The Broncos were one of five teams to earn a vote to win the Mid-American Conference Tournament in Cleveland next March.
