Broncos Claim NCHC Defenseman and Goalie of the Week Honors

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Western Michigan hockey's Cedric Fiedler and Cameron Rowe have earned National Collegiate Hockey Conference Player of the Week honors after their performances in WMU's split with No. 13/12 Notre Dame over the weekend.

Fiedler earns NCHC Defenseman of the Week after netting two goals in Saturday's win over the Fighting Irish and finishing +3 in the shutout. Fiedler also helped hold UND to just two goals on Friday and helped the penalty kill go a perfect 4-for-4 on Saturday. He gave the Broncos an early 1-0 lead on his first collegiate goal at 10:06 in the first period. Fiedler didn't waste time getting his second of his career, scoring just 2:42 later to push the lead to 2-0.

Rowe was stellar between the pipes for the Broncos, making 22 saves in Saturday's win for his first shutout as a Bronco. He also allowed just two goals on Friday with a season-high 30 saves. Rowe's play in net helped WMU's penalty kill go a perfect 6-for-6 on the weekend. The series boosted Rowe's save percentage to .928 on the season and lowered his goals against average to 1.66.

The Broncos are back in action this weekend, taking on No. 4 Michigan in a home-and-home series. Western Michigan heads to Ann Arbor on Friday for a 7 p.m. puck drop before hosting the Wolverines on Saturday at 6 p.m.
