Fish Ties for Third at Chippewa Invitational

BIRMINGHAM, Mich. – The Western Michigan golf team wrapped up the 2022 portion of its 2022-23 schedule with senior Alissa Fish tying for third place and the Broncos taking fifth at the Chippewa Invitational at Birmingham Country Club on Tuesday.

Fish entered the final round at +9 after shooting an 81 on Monday and shot up the leaderboard after shooting a 76, the lowest individual round of the day. The Clarklake, Mich., native finished a combined score of 157 (+13).

The Broncos combined to shoot a 332 (+73) just two strokes shy of fourth-place Toledo and seven shy of third-place Bowling Green. Oakland won the tournament with a 318 (+58) and was followed by host Central Michigan at 320 (+63).

Graduate transfer Natalie Samdal was WMU's second finisher, tying for 14th with a 161 (+17). Samdal opened up the tournament with an 80 on Monday and finished it up with a final round of 81. Haley Barclay finished just three strokes behind her with a 164 (+20) after improving from an 85 on Monday to a 79 in the final round. Jenna Hayes also improved from the opening round to the final round. After shooting an 86 on Monday, she finished up with an 81 to finish at 167 (+23). Freshman Megha Vallabhaneni rounded out WMU's top five with a 180 (+36).

The Broncos are off until February, when they resume action at the Falcon Florida Classic.
