KALAMAZOO, Mich. – Western Michigan hockey's Brandon Bussi has been named one of 28 goalies to the 2022 Mike Richter Award Watch List by the Hockey Commissioners Association on Thursday.
The Richter Award has been presented annually to the nation's top men's college hockey goalie since 2014.
Bussi has played in and started every game this season for the Broncos, posting a 14-5-0 record with a 2.39 goals against average and a .916 save percentage. Bussi has also posted two shutouts on the season, one against Ferris State and the other against No. 2 St. Cloud State. He was recently named the National Collegiate Hockey Conference Goalie of the Month for December, after helping WMU go 3-1-0 during the month, becoming the first goalie in program history to earn the monthly honors. His performance in net has helped the Broncos reach a program-best No. 3 national ranking in the USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine Poll.
The Sound Beach, N.Y., native is one of six netminders from the NCHC to make the watch list.
After a long break the Broncos finally return to action this Friday and Saturday, hosting No. 10 North Dakota at 7:05 p.m. Limited standing room only tickets are still available, but going fast, at www.wmubroncos.com/tickets.
