WMU Men's Tennis Announces the Passing of Dick Crawford

KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The Western Michigan men's tennis program and head coach Dave Morin are saddened to announce the passing of alum Dick Crawford.
 
Crawford played both football and tennis during his time at Western Michigan before graduating and earning a teaching certificate in 1960. He was also the president of his freshman and sophomore classes while at WMU.
 
"Dick lived a full and exciting life, and through his involvement with tennis he traveled the world and influenced countless individuals," said Morin. "He will be greatly missed by his family and friends and those that knew him during his days at WMU."
 
After leaving college he began a career in education, teaching middle school math in Ohio and coaching basketball. He returned to WMU in 1963 to pursue a graduate degree in physical education, graduating in June of 1964.
 
Crawford continued his career in education after moving out to California and taught for 27 years at the University of California Berkley. During the summers he would travel to Europe, Australia and New Zealand playing in international tennis tournaments and even achieved at Top 10 world ranking in 55+ veteran's tennis.
