AKRON, Ohio -- Junior
Brooke Gibbons sits tied for sixth place and just two shots off the lead, while the Western Michigan golf team is in fourth place as the Broncos wrapped up the opening round of the Akron Invitational at Portage Country Club on Friday.

Gibbons shot a season-low round of 75 (+4) and is just two shots behind leaders Jenn Davis of Akron and Cailyn Henderson of Indianapolis. The Lapeer, Mich., native had three birdies on the day, tied for second most in the round, and nine pars.

The Broncos combined to shoot a 308 (+24), its second-lowest round of the season. Indianapolis leads the tournament after shooting a 296 (+12), followed by the Zips at 303 (+19) and Eastern Michigan 306 (+22). WMU sits ahead of Ohio and Toledo on the leaderboard.

Junior
Imogen Courtney shot a season-low 76 (+5) and is tied for eighth, while senior
Cameryn Lucia is just two shots back of Gibbons, tied for 16th place after a 77 (+6).
Fiona Khaing shot an 80 (+9), while
Alissa Fish and
Ella Hoffman-Dick rounded out WMU's scoring with an 83 and 87.
