KALAMAZOO, Mich. – Markeese Hastings, a 6-7, 190-pound forward from Wyoming, Mich., who played his first two seasons at Butler University has announced he will be joining the Western Michigan men's basketball program on Thursday
This season Hastings played in eight games for the Bulldogs averaging 9.5 minutes per game and corralled 2.0 rebounds and 0.3 assists per game.
"It's with great excitement that we announced the addition of Markeese Hastings to our program. We recruited Markeese extremely hard out of high school and we were eager to pursue him once he entered the portal," said Bates. "He had tremendous success at Godwin Heights in Grand Rapids and was able to gain valuable experience at Butler."
"Markeese addresses a position of need for our program and we are extremely excited that he is a Bronco."
After being redshirted during the 2018-19 season Hastings played in seven games during the 2019-20 campaign before the season was canceled on March 12 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. In seven games Hastings averaged 1.0 points and 1.1 rebounds per game and had a season-high three points in a March 4 win over St. John's.
Prior to Butler, Hastings was a Michigan Associated Press Class B All-State Second-Team selection at Godwin Heights High School. In his senior season Hastings led Godwin Heights to 21-2 record averaging 22.3 points and 15.0 rebounds per game.
As a junior Hastings averaged 14.6 points to go along with 11.1 rebounds, 2.8 blocks and 2.1 assists per game. In his junior prep season Hastings led Godwin Heights to a 22-2 record under head coach Tyler Whittemore. Hastings helped guide Godwin Heights to a Michigan Class B State Title as a freshman.
