KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The Western Michigan men's tennis team kept on rolling, improving to 9-1 on the season after a 7-0 win over Cleveland State at West Hills Athletic Club on Friday afternoon.
WMU has now won each of its last two matches at 7-0 after losing its only contest of the season to Notre Dame. Friday's win was the team's seventh 7-0 score line of the season.
The Broncos claimed the doubles point after the No. 3 duo of
Peter Kuszynski and
Joaquin Caballer defeated the team of Clark Bilinovich and Jack Santilli 6-1 and the pair of
Arjun Honnappa and
Fynn Lohse at No. 1 beat Nico Mostradi and Luke Phillips 6-4.
Jannik Opitz and
Zac Faveri also deafeated Matthew Terry and Maxime Mareschal-Hay 6-2 to tie Opitz for the most career doubles wins in program history at 111.
In singles play Opitz defeated Mostradi at No. 1 6-3, 3-1 after Mostradi had to retire due to an injury. The second finisher was Kuszynski at No. 2, beating Terry 6-4, 6-2. At No. 5 Honnappa won against Bilinovich 6-4, 6-1 and freshman
Jackson Boone beat Mareschal-Hay by the same score line at No. 4. The match was wrapped up by Lohse at No. 3, 6-3, 6-3 over Phillips and freshman
Brogan Pierce at No. 6, beating JuandeDios Abboud 7-5, 4-6, 1-0 (10-5).
The Broncos are back at it on Saturday afternoon hosting Drake at noon.
