ROCK HILL, S.C. -- Senior thrower
Aniya Davis continued her strong start to the 2021 outdoor season after winning the discus throw to highlight the Western Michigan Track and Field team's final day of competition at the ADIDAS Winthrop Invitational on Saturday.
Davis, who won the discus at the Blizzard Buster hosted by Miami last weekend, threw a distance of 158' 11" (48.44m) for her second win of the season.
Madison Ochs finished right behind her in second place with a new personal-best distance of 151' 1" (46.05m). Ochs also went on to take third in the shot put with a distance of 41' 4.5" (12.61m).
WMU's field competitors had a very strong weekend with sophomore transfer
Suenomi Cobb taking this in the high jump on Friday after reaching a height of 5' 1" (1.55m). It was the first time Cobb had competed in the high jump since 2019 when she was at Missouri.
The Broncos had three athletes placed in the top eight in the 400-meter hurdles. Freshman Claira Gilchrest took third overall with a time of 1:06.17, while classmates Ahvon MItchell and Sarinty Bracey finished in fifth and seventh place.
After winning the 800-meter run on Friday, senior
Juliane Sormain dropped down in distance and took third overall in the 400-meter dash with a personal-best time of 58.06 seconds.
WMU's combination of Mitchell,
Sarinity Bracey, Gilchrist and Sormain also combined for a time of 3:57.20 to take second in the 4x400-meter relay.
The Broncos head back on the road next weekend, heading to Western Kentucky for the Hilltopper Relays on Friday and Saturday.
