WMU Readies for Tuesday Tilt with Northern Illinois

KALAMAZOO, Mich.  –  Continuing its road swing the Western Michigan volleyball team takes its six-match winning streak on the road to DeKalb to square off with Northern Illinois on Tuesday, March 16.

Scouting the Broncos
Western Michigan heads into Tuesday's contest with an overall and Mid-American Conference record of 12-3 and riding a six-match winning streak. The Broncos are coming off a four and three set victory at Akron over the weekend and now have a record of 7-1 on the road.

Broncos & Huskies
In 2019 WMU and NIU split its regular season series with each team winning on the other's home court. Overall the Broncos have dropped four of the last five meetings against the Huskies.

Hot Start
With a MAC record of 12-3, Western Michigan is off to its best start in conference play since the 2011 season when the Brown & Gold also started 12-3.

The 1,500 Club
Senior outside hitter Rachel Bontrager on Saturday at Akron became the third player in school history to eclipse 1,500 career kills. Bontrager ranks third in school history at 1,518 career kills and is just 14 behind Jessica Brown for the second most in school history.

In a Class of Her Own
Rachel Bontrager is only 25 digs away from eclipsing 1,000 career digs for her career. Bontrager can become the only player in school history to have 1,500 career kills and 1,000 career digs.

Leaders of the MAC
Western Michigan leads the MAC in assists per set and kills per set.

Fabulous Freshman
Freshman Setter Logan Case has been stellar during her first year as a Bronco leading the conference in assists per set (11.85) and total assists (640). Fellow freshman Andelyn Simkins ranks second in the MAC with 0.43 service aces per set.

Leaders of the West
With just six matches remaining, WMU is inching closer to its first MAC West title since 2012 and sixth in school history. It will be the fifth MAC West title under head coach Colleen Munson.

What's Next?
Following it's Tuesday match-up the Broncos hit the road once again for two matches at Ohio, March 19-20.
