TOLEDO, Ohio – The Western Michigan men's tennis team improved to 2-0 in Mid-American Conference play and 13-1 overall after a 6-1 win on the road at Toledo on Sunday.
After missing out on the doubles point in their 5-2 win at Ball State on Friday, the Broncos picked it up against the Rockets. Seniors
Zac Faveri and
Jannik Opitz improved to 13-1 in doubles play on the season after beating Adam Kovac and Filip Zupancic at No. 2, 6-3. The Broncos secured the point after
Peter Kuszynski and freshman
Joaquin Caballer won at No. 3, 6-4, over Max Skaer and Luis Klenschnitz.
Benjamin George put the Broncos up 2-0 with a 6-2, 6-1 win at No. 6, improving to 4-0 in singles play on the season. Kuszynski was victorious at No. 2 to push WMU's lead to 3-0, beating Krzystztof Wetoszka 6-4, 6-3 and sophomore
Arjun Honnappa secured the team's match win with a 6-3, 6-3 win at No. 4 over Kovac. Also winning on the day was
Jannik Opitz at No. 1, 6-3, 7-6 (7-0), and
Brogan Pierce at No. 5 3-6, 6-2, 6-2.
Western Michigan returns home to host Binghamton on Saturday at 12 p.m. and Buffalo on Sunday at 10 a.m.
