COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Western Michigan sophomore
Ronnie Attard has been named the Bauer National Collegiate Hockey Conference Defenseman of the Week for his performance in WMU's sweep of Miami over the weekend.
Â
Attard, who earns the honors for the third time this season, had five points in the two wins, scoring two goals and three assists. He also helped the Bronco penalty kill go a perfect 4-for-4.
Â
In Friday's 5-2 win he gave the Broncos a 1-0 lead with his seventh goal of the season, scoring on the power play at 12:12 in the first period. Attard picked up an assist right before the end of the first period when his shot was deflected in by
Paul Washe to give WMU a 2-0 lead. In Sunday's win he assisted on the opening goal by
Ethen Frank. After the RedHawks came back to tie the game at 2-2, the Philadelphia Flyers' draft pick netted the game-winning goal at 6:23 in the third period. He then set up Washe's empty-net goal to seal the victory.
Â
Attard's five-point weekend vaulted him into a tie with
Drew Worrad for the top point mark on the team with 22.
Â
The Broncos are done for the regular season and must wait a week for the rest of the NCHC standings to play out to see who they will take on in the opening round of the single-elimination NCHC Playoffs beginning on March 12.
