Scouting the Broncos
Western Michigan heads into its matches with Eastern Michigan with an overall and Mid-American Conference record of 2-2. In its home opening weekend, the Broncos dropped a pair of three-set matches to Bowling Green.
Grounding the Eagles
WMU swept the regular season series last season against Eastern Michigan. WMU defeated EMU in three sets (25-16, 25-17, 27-25) in Kalamazoo before defeating the Eagles in Ypsilanti in four sets (28-26, 25-23, 24-26, 25-19). Since 2010 WMU is 17-5 against Eastern Michigan and has won three straight over EMU.
Brown & Gold State
Against in-state foes Eastern Michigan and Central Michigan, Western Michigan owns a 22-10 record against its in-state rivals since 2012.
Ace It Up!
From behind the line, Western Michigan ranks second in the MAC with 1.64 service aces per set. Overall WMU ranks third in the MAC with 23 service aces.
Bontrager Leads the Way
Senior outside hitter
Rachel Bontrager leads the Broncos with 54 kills, averaging 3.86 per set. Her average kills per set ranks seventh in the MAC.
Dominant Duo
The duo of Bontrager and sophomore
Maggie King has combined for 95 kills, accounting for 54.5 percent of WMU's total kills. Bontrager leads the team with 54 kills followed by King with 41.
Closing In on 300
Western Michigan head coach
Colleen Munson is nearing 300 victories as the head coach of Western Michigan. With three more wins Munson can become the second coach in school history to eclipse 300 wins as head coach.
A Look Ahead
Following its two matches at Eastern Michigan the Broncos will return home for two matches against in-state rival Central Michigan, Feb. 11-12. WMU hits the road for a pair of matches against Miami (Feb. 18-19) before a four-game homestand beginning on Feb. 25-26 versus Ball State.
