Track & Field Heads to CMU for the 2021 Indoor MAC Championships

KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The Western Michigan track and field team heads to Central Michigan University and the 2021 Indoor Mid-American Conference Championships, taking place on Friday and Saturday at CMU's Indoor Athletic Complex.
 
The Broncos have qualified in seven individual events, as well as the distance medley and 4x400-meter relays. Nine athletes will compete in the seven individual events. WMU looks to push its momentum into the weekend. The Broncos were recently off but last competed at the GVSU Big Meet, posting several new personal bests.

FRIDAY
Competing on Friday for the Broncos will be throwers Madison Ochs, Taylor Eaton and Aniya Davis in the weight throw at 4 p.m. Eaton ranks sixth in the conference with a distance of 60' 6.75" (18.46m), recently setting the mark at the GVSU Friday Big Meet. Davis enters ranked 10th at 56' 11.5" (17.36m) and Ochs, who also PRed at the Big Meet, ranks 12th at 55' 5" (16.89m).
 
On the track freshmen Sarinity Bracey and Avhon Mitchell compete in the 60-meter hurdles trials at 5:30 p.m. Bracey ranks sixth in the MAC with a seed time of 8.82 seconds, while Mitchell sits 13th at 8.99. The finals for the event are on Saturday at 4:45 p.m. Claira Gilchrist is set to run in the 400-meter dash trials at 5:55 p.m. and she currently sits 22nd in the conference with a seed time of 1:02.28.
 
Senior Rebecca McNamee is seeded eighth in the 800-meter run and competes in the trials at 6:40 p.m., while Trinity Bracey is set to run in the 200-meter dash trials at 7:25 p.m. The distance medley caps off the day's action at 8 p.m.
 
SATURDAY
Ochs will be the sole field competitor on Saturday for the Broncos after qualifying for the shot put. The event starts at 4 p.m. and she currently ranks 15th with a distance of 42' 4" (12.90m).
 
In addition to potential finals in the 60 hurdles, 200, 400 and 800, WMU will also be competing in the mile run finals at 4:25 p.m. McNamara ranks 12th in the event with a time of 5:01.17 and Annalise James sits 24th with a time of 5:13.74. The meet is capped off with the 4x400-meter relay at 6:30 p.m.
