Women's Tennis Concludes 2021 Wrapping Up the Betsy Kuhle Invitational

KALAMAZOO, Mich. -- The Western Michigan women's tennis team wrapped up the 2021 portion of its season after finishing up hosting the Betsy Kuhle Invitational at West Hills Athletic Club on Saturday.  

The Broncos finished the weekend with eight total wins in doubles play and 12 in singles play. 

"It was great to be competing again in our fall portion of our season," said head coach Ryan Tomlinson. "Our young kids really needed those extra 25-30 matches this fall. I feel like we are in a great spot right now, we still have some things to work on over the next couple of weeks. I can't say enough about this group. They are hard-workers, great students and outstanding human beings. I look forward to seeing what this group can do come the start of our season in January." 

In doubles play on Friday Lindsey Zieglar and Kaitlyn Rogosch picked up a win over Cleveland State's Milano and Heaton, 6-1. Kristina Tiraspolsky and Taylor Smith also picked up a win over Marquette's Kaiser and Badawi, 7-5. Friday's singles action saw Karin Hamilton, Rogosch, Maya Perkucin and Smith all pick up wins in the opening round. Hamilton, Perkucin and Smith went on to finish the day 2-0 after wins in the second round, while Tiraspolsky also picked up a win.  

Saturday featured two rounds of doubles action. Elizabeth Trupp and Taylor Smith defeated CSU's Vicario and Froggner, 6-4, while Zieglar and Rogosch picked up their second win of the weekend after beating Cleveland State's Mrcela and Tounsi, 6-3. Hamilton and Perkucin teamed up to beat CSU's Yauch and Vevere, 6-4. In the second round of doubles Zieglar and Rogosch improved to 3-0 on the weekend with a win over Oakland's pair of Glazbrook and Patel, 6-1. Tiraspolsky and Trupp combined for a win over Mrcela and Vevre, 6-0, while Hamilton and Perkucin wrapped up doubles play with a win over Marquette's Kaiser and Badawi 7-6 (3).  

Saturday's single action saw Zieglar, Hamilton, Perkucin and Smith all pick up wins. Zieglar defeated Mrcela 6-2, 6-4, Hamilton won over Marquette's Kojcic 6-4, 6-3, Perkucin also took down a MU athlete, beating Ferdman 6-0, 7-6 (6) and Smith finished off with a win over Badawi 7-5, 6-7, 1-0 (5). 

The Broncos resume action in January.
