KALAMAZOO, Mich. -- The Western Michigan women's tennis team wrapped up hosting the Betsy Kuhle Invitational over the weekend.
The All-Tournament Team consisted of Grand Valley State's Natasha Sengphrachanh, who was also named the Tournament MVP, Alice Petrache from Youngstown State and WMU's
Daniella Richardson and
Frida Weijerman.
FRIDAY
Action start off in doubles. WMU's team of Richardson and
Xingtong Jiang picked up a win over Cleveland State's duo of Kavenagh and Sergieva, 6-4. Also picking up wins in doubles was Weijerman and Julie Hostáková, 6-2, over YSU's Kuscu and Goraniti. Senior
Julia Frazier and freshman
Mahika Khanna also picked up a win, 6-2, over YSU's Petrache and Cedeno.
In singles action, Ayiana Yaguchi, Khanna, Weijerman, Frazier, Ho,
Ella Fitcher, Richardson,
Sienna Osborne and Hostáková all picked up wins.
SATURDAY
The tournament moved inside due to weather, with action once again starting with doubles play. Weijerman and Hostáková picked up a 6-2 win over CSU's Petkova and McKnight and later picked up a 6-4 win over Sengphrachanh and Briggs from GVSU. Frazier and Khanna also picked up a pair of wins on the final day. The duo beat Burkett and Priedite from Grand Valley State, 7-5, and later earned a win over the Lakers' Farmache and Sakiroglu, 6-3. Richardson and Jiang picked up a 6-2 win over Oakland's Doka and Berkovich. Weijerman and Hostáková beat Sengphrachanh and Briggs, while Yaguchi and Fitcher earned a 6-0 win over Kavenagh and Tapia from Cleveland State.
In singles, Weijerman, Fitcher, Khanna, Hostáková, Yaguchi, Osborne and Jiang all picked up wins.
The Broncos are off this weekend and get back to work on Oct. 2-4 at the Michigan State Fall Invite.
