YPSLIANTI, Mich. – Western Michigan's Alissa Fish sits in first place after the opening two rounds of the Shirley Spork EMU Invitational at Eagle Crest Golf Club on Monday.
Fish opened the tournament by shooting a 69 in the first round and then followed it up with a 71 in the second round. Her overall score of 140 (-4) gives her a four-stroke lead over Eastern Michigan's Natai Apichonlati. Fish's opening round score was the second 69 of the season shot by a Bronco, joining Haley Barclay. The Clarklake, Mich., native was -2 on par threes and -3 on par fives. Fish also recorded eight birdies and 24 pars on the day.
As a team the Broncos are tied for sixth place with a two-round total of 614 (+38) after an opening round of 306 and a second round of 308. WMU is just three strokes out of fourth place. The Eagles lead the tournament with a 587 (+11).
Fiona Khaing shot a 154 (+10) and sits tied for 24th place and just five strokes out of the top 10 after opening with a 76 and finishing the day with a 78. Brooke Gibbons is at 157 (+13) after shooting a 77 and an 80. Imogen Courtney shot a 163 (+19) and Barclay shot a 171 (+27) to round out WMU's top five. Freshman Madeline Blum, competing as an individual, shot a 162 (+18).
