KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The Western Michigan men's soccer team gears up to travel south for a pair of contests in the peach state. The Broncos will take on Georgia State on Thursday for a 7 p.m. kick-off before traveling to Statesboro for a Saturday contest with Georgia Southern. Kick-off time on Saturday is still TBA.
SCOUTING THE PANTHERS (9-3-0, 1-1 MAC)
Georgia State prepares to host WMU following two consecutive wins, with the most recent of the two coming against East Tennessee State by a final score of 2-1.
The Panthers took control early, scoring both goals before halftime. Junior forward Max Wilkins found the net first, with his goal coming in the 14th minute of play to put Georgia State up. Wilkins received the feed from fifth-year midfielder Iolo Jones, as well as senior midfielder Tristan Jumeau.
East Tennessee State responded with a goal of their own in the 35th minute, but the tie was quickly broken just four minutes later via a penalty kick goal by senior defender George Proctor, which ended up being the game-winner for the Panthers.
SCOUTING THE EAGLES (4-9-0, 0-2 MAC)
Georgia Southern continue their home stand against No. 21 Northern Illinois and WMU this week in the midst of a five-game losing streak. Most recently, the Eagles suffered a defeat at the feet of Mercer by a final tally of 3-2.
Junior forward Adam Davie was responsible for both scores for his squad, scoring in the 11th and 85th minute of play. Both of Davie's goals came via penalty kicks as well. Despite Davie's best efforts, Mercer sealed the game in the 89th minute, thwarting any thoughts of overtime.
Junior goalkeeper Jokull Blaengsson kept the Eagles in the contest, registering five saves on the evening as well.
ON THE HORIZON
Following their trip down south, the Bronco men's soccer team returns home for their final non-conference game against Detroit Mercy on Oct. 27. Following the matchup with the Titans, the Broncos wind their season down, having just two regular season outings left before post-season play begins.
