MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. – The Western Michigan track and field team opened the 2021 indoor season with a dual meet loss at Central Michigan on Saturday.
The big performance on the day came from senior Rebecca McNamee, who took first overall in both the 800-meter run and the mile run. McNamee, who was an All-Mid-American Conference finisher during the cross country season, ran a time of 2:17.47 in the 800, besting the competition by over four seconds. In the mile she came just four seconds shy of breaking the 5-minute barrier at 5:04.14. Courtney Allen finished third overall in both the 800 and the mile.
Trinity Bracey took second overall in the 400-meter dash with a time of 1:01.07 as WMU's top performer in the sprints. Madison Ochs claimed second in the shot put after throwing a distance of 42' 5.50" (12.94 meters).
The Broncos are back in action next Saturday at Grand Valley State.
