KALAMAZOO, Mich. -Â The Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) announced its academic awards list, with Western Michigan earning a spot on this year's ITA All-Academic Teams list. In addition to the team honor, rising senior
Valerie Riegraf, rising juniors
Kaitlyn Rogosch,
Taylor Smith,
Kristina Tiraspolsky,
Femke Tjon-A-Joe and
Elizabeth Trupp and recently graduated
Gabriela Slavova also received recognition for individual academic accomplishments.
For a team to be considered for the ITA All-Academic Team award, a program must maintain a minimum grade-point average of 3.20, while an individual must maintain a grade point average of at least 3.50 during the current academic year to be considered for the ITA Scholar-Athlete honor.
The seven ITA Scholar-Athlete selections mark the second most in program history, behind only nine in 2006. It is the fourth consecutive campaign the Broncos have had five or more individuals honored.
"I couldn't be more proud of this group," head coach
Ryan Tomlinson said. "With their athletic season cut short, they continue to strive and work in the classroom. This group is a true epitome of student-athletes and has set the bar high for next year's group. Congratulations to all the teams across the country, and to this team in representing Western Michigan with pride."
Western Michigan, which has earned the ITA All-Academic Team award since 1996, was joined by six other Mid-American Conference schools on the team list: Ball State, Bowling Green, Buffalo, Eastern Michigan, Miami and Northern Illinois.
Riegraf, Rogosch, Smith and Trupp earned a spot on the ITA Scholar-Athlete list for the first time in their careers while Tiraspolsky and Tjon-A-Joe repeated the award from 2019 and Slavova was chosen for the third time.
Each member of the 2020 ITA All-Academic Teams and ITA Scholar-Athletes will receive a certificate to commemorate the accomplishment.
