Blake Dunn Named Top 100 College Prospect by D1Baseball

KALAMAZOO, Mich. – With the 2020 Major League Baseball Draft just days away Western Michigan baseball junior outfielder Blake Dunn was named one of the top 100 college prospects by D1Baseball on Monday.

According to D1Baseball Dunn is ranked the 95th best college prospect for the upcoming draft.  The 2020 MLB Draft will take place June 10-11 with the first round beginning on Wednesday, June 10 at 7:00 p.m. with rounds two through five taking place on Thursday, June 11 beginning at 5:00 p.m.

Blake Dunn Scouting Report by D1Baseball.com:
"Strong-bodied and quick-twitch at 5-foot-11, 205 pounds, Dunn is a 70-grade athlete and physically resembles Cole Calhoun. Dunn was a catcher as a prep, but has since moved to center field where his plus-plus speed plays from gap to gap. He's a solid average defender with an above average arm. He must reduce his strikeout rate while improving his power, and was off to that type of start in 2020 with six extra-base hits and just 12 strikeouts in 69 plate appearances to go along with 11 stolen bases. Overall, there aren't too many athletes of his caliber in college baseball and Dunn will likely be considered around the fourth round."

Back on May 20 Dunn was named one of the top five athletes at the collegiate level heading into the draft according to Baseball America. Per MLB scouting department Dunn ranked as the second best athlete at the collegiate level.

Prior to the 2020 season Dunn was named one of the top 150 hitters in college baseball according to D1Baseball analytics. Dunn was also one of 55 players named to the preseason Golden Spikes Award watch list which is given annually to the top amateur baseball player in the country.

The junior outfielder currently ranks as the 172nd best prospect according to MLB.com and projections from draftsite.com have Dunn going in the fourth round to the Milwaukee Brewers.

Before the season was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic Dunn recorded a .288 batting average and led the Broncos in home runs (2), RBIs (17) and stolen bases (11). In 15 games, Dunn ranked 10th in the NCAA in stolen bases and eighth in stolen bases per game (0.73).

In his sophomore campaign Dunn earned First Team All-MAC honors after leading WMU in batting average (.374), runs (43), hits (71), triples (2), slugging percentage (.521), on-base percentage (.467) and stolen bases (30). The Saugatuck, Mich., native ranked in the top 10 in the Mid-American Conference in six statistical categories while his 30 stolen bases was the second most in a single-season in school history.

For his career Dunn registered a .338 batting average with 22 doubles, seven home runs and 64 RBIs. Dunn has a .460 career slugging percentage and a .423 on-base percentage in 108 career games. His 47 career stolen bases is tied for the fourth most in program history.
