KALAMAZOO, Mich. – Despite the challenges of the 2020 spring semester due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Western Michigan football team continued to excel in the classroom.
The Broncos posted a cumulative 3.11 grade-point average (GPA) for the spring and had 47 student-athletes register a 3.00 or higher GPA.
Leading the way in the classroom were Wade Buckman, Mike Caliendo, Jaret Curtis, Joe Misak, Jake Moertl, Harrison Taylor, Anthony Torres and Eric Wenzel, who each finished with a 4.00 GPA. In addition, 19 student-athletes posted personal-best GPAs during the spring.
The strong academic performances helped Western Michigan claim the 2019-20 Mid-American Conference Institutional Academic Achievement Award, presented annually to the MAC school with the highest GPA for student-athletes in league-sponsored sports for the academic year. The Broncos also received the 2019-20 MAC Men's Faculty Athletics Representative Academic Achievement Award for having the league's highest GPA and Academic Progress Rate rank among men's programs.
