Bellamy Inks with Broncos as Undrafted Free Agent

KALAMAZOO, Mich. – Former Western Michigan running back LeVante Bellamy has agreed to terms with the Denver Broncos to join the NFL organization as an undrafted free agent.

The Mid-American Conference Vern Smith Leadership Award recipient as the league's MVP and MAC Offensive Player of the Year in 2019, Bellamy led the nation in rushing touchdowns in 2019 with 23. In 48 career games with 29 starts, he rushed 617 times for 3,720 yards (6.03) and 35 touchdowns, caught 57 passes for 370 yards (6.49) and one score and returned 19 kickoffs for 358 yards (18.84).

In the Western Michigan record book, Bellamy finished fourth in rushing yardage, rushing touchdowns and 100-yard rushing games (17); seventh in all-purpose yards (4,448) and touchdowns scored (36); and eighth in rushing attempts. In Bronco single-game history, Bellamy ranks seventh in rushing yards (213; Ball State, 2018). Within the WMU single-season charts, he ranks second in touchdowns scored (23; 2019), tied for second in points scored (138; 2019), fifth in rushing yards (1,472; 2019), eighth in all-purpose yards (1,668; 2018), ninth in rushing yards (1,228; 2018) and 13th in all-purpose yards (1,527; 2019).

On the MAC career ledger, Bellamy stands 24th in rushing yardage while the 23 rushing scores in 2019 are tied for the fourth most in a year in league history.

A native of Indianapolis, Bellamy had nine career games with two or more TDs: against Syracuse (2018; 2 & 2019; 2), Eastern Michigan (2018; 2 & 2019; 3), Georgia State (2019; 3), Miami (2019; 2), Bowling Green (2019; 4), Ball State (2019; 3) and Northern Illinois (2019; 2). He also became the eighth player in Western Michigan history to reach the 3,000-rushing yardage plateau.

During his time as a Bronco, Bellamy helped Western Michigan to 41 wins, one MAC title, four bowl games, including the 2017 Goodyear Cotton Bowl Classic and the first bowl victory in program history with a 45-31 win against Middle Tennessee State in the 2015 Popeyes Bahamas Bowl.

Bellamy clocked a 4.28 second 40-yard dash (laser) in June of 2019 and went on to represent Western Michigan at the East-West Shrine Bowl in St. Petersburg, Fla., on January 18, 2020, and NFL Combine in Indianapolis, from February 23 – March 1, 2020.

As a senior, Bellamy was a first team all-MAC selection and recipient of the Bill Brown Team MVP Award as well as a Doak Walker Award semifinalist. He started all 13 games and rushed 266 times for 1,472 yards (6.03) and 23 TDs while catching 15 passes for 55 yards (3.67) and totaling 1,527 all-purpose yards to become the third Bronco to reach 1,500 all-purpose yards in a season two or more times. He scored 138 points and finished third nationally in points scored per game (10.6), fifth in points scored, ninth in rushing yards per game (113.2) and 10th in total rushing yards. Bellamy led the MAC in points scored, points scored per game, rushing touchdowns and total touchdowns (23) scored while standing second in rushing yards and rushing yards per game. Bellamy capped the year earning honorable mention All-America nods from Phil Steele and Pro Football Focus.

Bellamy was a first team all-MAC honoree in 2018 after playing in all 13 games and starting 12. He rushed 205 times for 1,228 yards (5.99) and six TDs and caught 30 passes for 185 yards (6.17) and a TD. Bellamy added 14 kickoff returns for 255 yards (18.21) to total 1,668 all-purpose yards. Within the MAC, Bellamy ranked first in all-purpose yards per game (128.3), second in rushing yards per game (94.5) and eighth in kickoff return average. Nationally, he stood 20th in total rushing yards, 22nd in all-purpose yards per game, 28th in rushing yards per game and 35th in rushing yards per carry.

During the 2017 and 2016 seasons, Bellamy combined to play in nine games as injuries cut short both campaigns. He played in all 13 games as a true freshman in 2015, rushing 77 times for 493 yards (6.40) and two TDs. In the Broncos' bowl contest against Middle Tennessee State, he rushed five times for 24 yards as WMU captured the first bowl win in program history.

Bellamy graduated from Western Michigan in June, 2019, with a degree in finance.
