COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Western Michigan freshman defenseman Ronnie Attard has been named to the National Collegiate Hockey Conference All-Rookie Team, as voted upon by the league's coaches and media.
Attard was a unanimous decision, receiving the maximum 15 first-place votes. The White Lake, Mich., native played in 18 of the team's 24 conference games, recording 11 points on four goals and seven assists. Only conference statistics are factored into voting. Attard was the top scoring freshman defenseman in the league by six points, despite playing six fewer games, over Colorado College's Connor Mayer and Omaha's Brandon Scanlin, each with five.
The former USHL Player and Defenseman of the Year also had the top plus/minus among freshmen defensemen at +15.
Attard joins Ben Blacker (2017) as the only other Bronco in program history to earn the honors.
The Broncos are back in action this weekend hosting St. Cloud State in the NCHC Quarterfinals on Friday, Saturday and Sunday (if necessary) at 7:05 p.m. WMU students get in free with valid student ID. Tickets are available by calling 1-888-4-WMUTIX and online at www.wmubroncos.com/tickets.
