Volleyball Adds Madison Merz to 2021-22 Recruiting Class

KALAMAZOO, Mich. –  Western Michigan volleyball and head coach Colleen Munson announced on Wednesday that middle blocker Madizon Merz has signed a National Letter of Intent to join the Bronco volleyball program for the 2021-22 season.

Merz joins middle blocker Kennedy Hogan (Holly, Mich.) and outside hitter Julia Marr (Cincinnati, Ohio) as part of the 2021-22 WMU volleyball recruiting class.

Merz is a four-year varsity player at Mercy McAuley High School under head coach Denise Harvey. This past season Merz earned GGCL Second Team All-Conference while also being named Second Team All-District. In 2019 she earned GGCL Second Team All-Conference and was Third Team All-District. As a freshman she was GGCL Honorable Mention and was a part of the District 16 All-Star team.

Merz is Mercy McAuley's career leader in kills (761), total blocks (146), solo blocks (31) and service aces (67). Merz is also the school record holder with 2.4 kills per set.  Merz was originally committed to Texas Tech before joining the Broncos. Merz is the daughter of Conni and Pete Merz and has a sister Emily and a brother, Garrett.
