KALAMAZOO, Mich. – On Wednesday Western Michigan football redshirt senior
Wesley French was named to the Rimington Trophy Watch list, which is presented annually to the most outstanding center in NCAA Division I College Football.
French is one of seven centers from the Mid-American Conference to be named to the award's watch list. French spent the 2015-17 season as an offensive lineman before shifting to the defensive line during the spring of 2018. The Benton Harbor, Mich., native transitioned back to the offensive line during the spring of 2020.
The redshirt senior center earned Academic All-MAC honors in 2018 and played in three games on the offensive line in 2017 against No.4 Southern California, Wagner and Ball State. French did not experience game action last season after suffering a foot injury during fall camp.
In 2018 on the defensive line French booked 22 tackles and 1.5 tackles for loss while having at least two tackles in eight games.

The Rimington Trophy is presented annually to the most outstanding center in NCAA Division I College Football. Since its inception, the seventeen-year old award has raised over $4.45 million for the Boomer Esiason Foundation, which is committed to finding a cure for cystic fibrosis.
