MALIBU, Calif. - Senior Jannik Opitz represented the Western Michigan men's tennis team at the ITA Oracle Masters at Pepperdine University in Malibu, Calif.

On Thursday, Opitz won his first round singles match, sweeping #66 nationally ranked Olivier Stuart from Mercer in straight sets, 7-5 and 6-2 after trailing early on in the first set.

In the second round, Opitz was defeated by #8 nationally ranked Daniel Cukierman of USC on Friday afternoon.

Jannik also competed in the mixed doubles draw, teaming up with Brindtha Ramasamy from Miami (OH). Opitz and Ramasamy were defeated by Sumit Sarkar and Michaela Haet of Rice yesterday in the first round.

Western Michigan will host the Vredevelt Invite next weekend at the Sorensen Courts in Kalamazoo.
