KALAMAZOO, Mich. - Western Michigan men's tennis senior Jannik Opitz will compete at the 2019 Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Oracle Masters in Malibu, Calif. The four-day event will be hosted by Pepperdine University at the Malibu Racquet Club beginning on Thursday, September 26, and will conclude on Sunday, September 29.

Opitz, the reigning Mid-American Conference Player of the Year, was selected to represent the MAC at the fifth edition of this event and he will be joined by 31 other male student-athletes with at least one representative from each Division I conference that sponsors men's tennis.

Singles matches will play best two out of three sets with each set played to six games and an if-necessary tiebreak at six-all. A first match loser consolation draw will be held so everyone is guaranteed at least two singles matches. The singles draw will be seeded from 1-32 based on the Universal Tennis Rating system (UTR).

Seven of the Top 25 men's players in the 2019-20 ITA Division I preseason national rankings are scheduled to compete, including #8 Daniel Cukierman from USC, #9 Jack Lin from Columbia, #13 Carlos Aguilar from Texas A&M, #14 Matias Soto from Baylor, #16 Hady Habib from Texas A&M, #20 Keegan Smith from UCLA and #23 Alex Brown from Illinois.

Senior Kennosuke Nouchi was the last Bronco to compete at the ITA Oracle Masters after receiving an invitation for the 2017 event. Nouchi lost in two sets to Thibault Cancel of Alabama in the first round that year.
