KALAMAZOO, Mich. - The Western Michigan men's tennis team continued its 2019 fall competitive schedule at the Notre Dame Bayliss Invitational in South Bend, Ind.
In singles play, sophomore
Peter Kuszynski went 4-0, defeating opponents from Notre Dame, Marquette and Louisville over the weekend. Senior
Kennosuke Nouchi went 3-1, with his lone setback coming in three sets against Alex Wesbrooks from Louisville. Freshmen
Arjun Honnappa and
Rodrigo Crespo each won both of their singles contests on Saturday at the Eck Tennis Center.
As a team, the Broncos combined for a singles record of 17-11, with ten of those victories coming yesterday.
In doubles action, the #35 nationally ranked team of Nouchi and senior
Jannik Opitz went undefeated over three matches, which featured a 7-6 victory against Sergio Hernandez and Fabien Salle of Louisville. Crespo and Honnappa teamed up in South Bend and also went 3-0 in dominating fashion, outscoring their opponents 18-5 in sets. Junior
Zac Faveri won all three of his doubles matches with two different partners, including sophomore
Jack Randall.
Western Michigan went a perfect 4-0 in doubles play on the final day of competition at Notre Dame, earning an impressive combined doubles record of 10-2 as a team.
Kuzsynski, who finished with a combined singles and doubles record of 5-2, was named to the Bayliss Invitational all-tournament team.
Select members of the Western Michigan men's tennis team will compete next weekend at the Oracle ITA Masters in Malibu, Calif.
