Women's Soccer Wraps Up Non-Conference Play Hosting Loyola Chicago on Friday

KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The Western Michigan women's soccer team wraps up non-conference play hosting Loyola-Chicago on Friday at 4 p.m. Admission is free.

State and local health officials are advising preventative measures against mosquito bites as a precaution against the very serious but rare mosquito-borne virus Eastern Equine Encephalitis. Western Michigan is advising individuals to limit outdoor activities between 7 p.m.-7 a.m. Bronco student-athletes and coaching staffs have continually been updated on EEE, its impact and the best preventative measures. Fans are also encouraged to follow the Kalamazoo County Health and Community Services Department's guidelines. 
 
THE SERIES
The Broncos hold a 6-2-0 lead in the all-time series over the Ramblers. The last meeting between the schools came back in 2016 with WMU winning on the road, 2-1. Loyola makes its first trip to Kalamazoo since 2012.
 
CAREER DAY FOR MAGGIE
Last time out the Broncos fell to No. 18 Kansas, 2-0. Junior goalkeeper Maggie Rogers had a career day, making 13 saves to keep WMU in the game until the Jayhawks finally broke through in the 80th minute. Prior to this season the Rochester Hills, Mich., native had not started a game in her career. This season she has started five of WMU's six games, including the team's two wins. Rogers' previous career high was seven, set against Notre Dame back on Aug. 29.
 
MORGAN, THE DISTRIBUTOR
In Western Michigan's 3-1 win over Oakland, sophomore forward Morgan Otteson had a career-high three assists in the win. She had primary assists on WMU's first and third goals, and had a secondary assist on the second goal. Otteson's three assists now lead the team and she also surpassed a new a career-high after recording just one assist to go with five goals in her freshman year.
 
SCOUTING THE RAMBLERS
Loyola Chicago (3-4-1) heads into Kalamazoo after splitting with DePaul and at Northern Illinois. The Ramblers fell to DePaul, 2-0, before beating the Huskies, 2-0. Two of LUC's three wins this season have come on the road, with the other being an impressive 2-1 win at Missouri.
 
Senior forward Aleksa Tataryn leads the team in goals scored with four. Freshman midfielder Megan Nemac has made an immediate impact and leads the team with nine points on three goals and a team-high three assists. Amanda Cassidy and Simone Wark are the only other two Ramblers to score so far this season.
 
Grace Droessler has played the majority of the minute between the sticks for Loyola Chicago. The freshman has a 1-3-1 record, making 25 saves. Sophomore Maddie Hausmann is 2-1-0 in four games played and has made seven saves on the season.
 
ON THE HORIZON
WMU opens Mid-American Conference play hosting Kent State next Friday at 4 p.m. and then welcoming Ohio on Sunday, Sept. 29 at 1 p.m.
