KALAMAZOO, Mich. – Western Michigan senior center Luke Juriga has been named to the 2019 Rimington Trophy Watch List.
The Rimington Trophy is presented annually to the most outstanding center in NCAA Division I College Football. Since its inception, the seventeen-year old award has raised over $4.2 million for the Boomer Esiason Foundation, which is committed to finding a cure for cystic fibrosis. Dave Rimington, the award's namesake, was a consensus first-team All-America center at the University of Nebraska in 1981 and 1982, during which time he became the John Outland Trophy's only two-time winner as the nation's finest college interior lineman.
Juriga earned First Team All-Mid-American Conference honors last year, starting all 13 games at guard and leading the team in snaps played at 1,056. Juriga, who is also a two-time Academic All-MAC selection, was also a Second Team All-MAC selection in 2017.The Aurora, Ill., helped the Bronco rushing attack rank 33rd in the nation last season and 21st in 2017.
Juriga is one of four Broncos to earn spots on watch lists this preseason, joining teammates LeVante Bellamy (Maxwell, Doak Walker), Giovanni Ricci (Mackey) and D'Wayne Eskridge (Biletnikoff).
