KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The Western Michigan hockey team is sending 12 Broncos to National Hockey League development camps over the coming weeks.
WMU's four draft picks will head to their respected teams with senior captain Hugh McGing heading to camp with the Stanley Cup Champion St. Louis Blues. The Philadelphia Flyers will host senior forward Wade Allison and newly drafted freshman defenseman Ronnie Attard, while sophomore defenseman and assistant captain Mattias Samuelsson heads to Buffalo.
The Sabres will see the most Broncos, with senior forward Dawson DiPietero and junior forward Josh Passolt joining Samuelsson. Senior defenseman Cam Lee heads to camp with the Pittsburgh Penguins to round out the senior class participation. Junior forward Austin Rueschhoff heads to Columbus to camp with the Blue Jackets after a career-best season that produced 27 points on 13 goals and 14 assists. Classmate Ethen Frank heads to Dallas, while sophomore defenseman Jared Kuchark joins McGing in St. Louis. Freshman goalie Brandon Bussi will attend development camp with the Minnesota Wild and classmate Jason Polin will head to Toronto.
