CLEVELAND, Ohio - The Mid-American Conference announced the 2019 Softball postseason awards Tuesday, May 7, as voted on by the league's head coaches. Western Michigan's
Sydney Stefanick was selected to the All-MAC First Team, while
Kaylen Glenfield earned Second Team All-MAC honors.
During conference play, Stefanick and Glenfield tied for fifth in the MAC with 26 hits each. Stefanick earns a spot on the First Team for a second consecutive season, while Glenfield receives her first All-MAC nod.
A junior outfielder from Garden City, Mich., Glenfield was one of three Broncos to start in all 44 regular season games. She leads the Broncos with 10 doubles and owns a .338 batting average, second to Stefanick. Glenfield has recorded double-digit base hits in 15 games, including a five-hit performance versus Akron March 29, tying a Western Michigan single-game record. From March 27-29, Glenfield .615/.615/.923 with a home run, double, and five RBI en route to earning her secod career MAC Scholar-Athlete of the Week award, boasting a 3.98 GPA. Glenfield is also steady defensively with a .968 fielding percentage.
Stefanick, a sophomore pitcher/designated player, has led the Brown & Gold at the plate and in the pitcher's circle. The Johnstown, Ohio native ranks among the top three in the MAC with a .384 batting average, .703 slugging percentage, 47 runs batted in, and 12 home runs, recently breaking both the home run and RBI single-season records at WMU. In the pitcher's circle, Stefanick ranks among the top 10 in the MAC in opposing batting average (.249), innings pitched (126.2), strikeouts (93), and wins (10). In 30 appearances including 14 starts, she has tossed six complete games with three shutouts to go along with her 3.15 earned run average.
