LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The National Fastpitch Coaches Association announced that 392 student-athletes from 163 programs have received 2019 NFCA Division I All-Region accolades Tuesday, May 16. Western Michigan softball's
Sydney Stefanick earned Great Lakes Region First Team honors following a stellar sophomore campaign. Â
The awards honor softball student-athletes from the Association's 10 regions with first, second and third-team selections. NFCA member coaches from each respective region voted on the teams, and all the honorees now become eligible for the 2019 NFCA Division I All-America squads. Stefanick was one of two members from the Mid-American Conference to earn First Team honors.Â
Stefanick earned her second consecutive First Team All-MAC honor in 2019 prior to earning her first career NFCA regional award. She played in all 46 games for the Broncos, leading the team in batting average (.380), slugging percentage (.697), hits (54), runs batted in (47), and home runs (12). Her .380 batting average is the third-best all-time at WMU, while she broke the single-season home run and RBI records. She also became just the second Bronco ever to record a pair of two-home run games in a season. In the pitcher's circle, Stefanick led WMU with 97 strikeouts in 135.1 innings pitched to go along with her 3.05 earned run average, seven complete games, and three shutouts.Â
