WMU Heads to Ball State for Final Regular Season Road Match

KALAMAZOO, Mich. - The Western Michigan men's tennis team is set for its final regular season road contest, traveling to Muncie, Ind. for a Mid-American Conference test at Ball State University on Saturday, April 6. Doubles are scheduled to begin at 2 p.m.

LAST TIME OUT
Western Michigan went 2-1 last weekend, earning a road win at Northern Illinois prior to splitting a pair of non-conference matches. Dayton snapped the Broncos' five-match win streak with a 4-2 victory prior to WMU bouncing back with a 4-1 win over the University of Indianapolis. Junior Kennosuke Nouchi went 3-0 in singles on the weekend, capped off by clinching the match point with a 7-6 (2), 6-2 win over Indianapolis' Magnus Mueller for his seventh consecutive victory.  

KUSZYNSKI AND RANDALL RANKED IN ITA DOUBLES
The freshmen duo of Peter Kuszynski and Jack Randall are ranked among the top 90 in ITA's latest national doubles rankings, coming in at No. 82. The pair is unbeaten in their last five matches and has twice been named MAC Doubles Team of the Week. 

ABOUT BALL STATE
The Cardinals and Broncos previously met in the MAC opener March 15 in Muncie, Ind., with WMU prevailing 5-2. Leading 3-0 after earning the doubles point along with singles wins from Jannik Opitz and Nick Schnobel, Peter Kuszynski defeated Conner Anderson 6-2, 6-2 to put WMU up 4-0, sealing the win. With a 1-3 record in the conference, Ball State is looking to snap a two-match losing skid, coming off a 6-1 loss versus Butler on Wednesday.

ON THE HORIZON
The Brown & Gold return home for the regular season finale next Friday, April 12, hosting Toledo during senior day. 

MAC CHAMPIONSHIP
For the 12th time in program history, Western Michigan will host the 2019 MAC Tournament April 19-21, taking place at Sorensen Courts/West Hills Athletic Club. The Tournament has transitioned back to a six-team format for the first time since 2012, with the top two seeds receiving a bye straight to the semifinals. The Broncos previously hosted the tournament in 2017, falling to the No. 1 seed Buffalo 4-3 in the championship. WMU currently holds the No. 1 seed with a 5-0 mark in the MAC, followed by 3-1 records from Buffalo and Toledo.
