COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Western Michigan track and field team wrapped up the first day of competition at the Jesse Owens Track Classic at Ohio State University on Friday.
The top performance, on a light day of competition, for the Broncos came by Audrey Oswalt in the javelin throw. The senior, who just returned to action after a slight injury, threw a distance of 133' 5" (40.68m) to take fifth overall. Freshman Olivia O'Brien also competed in the event, throwing a personal-best distance of 117' 11" (35.94m).
Sophomore Aniya Davis was WMU's top finisher in the hammer throw, reaching a new personal-best distance of 161' 11" (49.36m).
Junior Haley Ritsema was the lone runner in action for the Broncos, competing in the 1,500-meter run and recording a time of 4:57.25.
Western Michigan has a full slate of action on Saturday.
