WALNUT, Calif. – The Western Michigan track and field team wrapped up its first day of competition at the Mt. SAC Relays on Friday evening.
WMU had strong performances in the long jump and the hurdles in the limited action on the day. Junior Erica Sheahan took eighth in the open long jump after reaching a distance of 19' 3.50" (5.88m), an outdoor season best.
In the 100-meter hurdles, junior Erin Dowd tied her personal-best time of 14.25 seconds, missing out no qualifying for the finals along with freshman Taylor Rucker after running a time of 14.95 seconds. Rucker also competed in the open 400-meter hurdles race along with Alex Bryant. Bryant ran a time of 1:02.92, knocking nearly two seconds off of her previous season's best time.
WMU's 4x100-meter relay team of Sheahan, Madison Meredith, Bryant and Diamond Mitchell combined to run a time of 46.59 seconds, its fastest time of the season, and took fourth overall.
Dowd competes in the 400-meter hurdles invitational on Saturday, along with Sarah Anderson in the 800-meter run invitational and Abena Atuobi in the shot put.
