Scouting the Broncos
Western Michigan heads into the weekend with an overall record of 9-20 and 2-5 in Mid-American Conference play. In midweek action on Wednesday the Broncos defeated Notre Dame, 12-2. WMU seeks its first home series victory since April 20-22 of last season against Central Michigan.
Series History vs. Northern Illinois
WMU leads the all-time series over Northern Illinois, 46-38-1 and is 5-4 in its last nine meetings with the Huskies. Last season in DeKalb the Broncos won the series over NIU, 2-1 and had a team batting average of .303. Â
Road Warriors
Friday's contest will be the first game inside Robert J. Bobb Stadium at Hyames Field since May 8 of last season. WMU began the 2019 campaign with 29 straight road games, the longest streak in the nation. WMU along with Seton Hall are the only teams in NCAA Division I to have not played a home game this season.
Consider It Dunn
Sophomore
Blake Dunn has done it all for the Broncos at the plate this season, leading the team in batting average (.415), runs scored (25), home runs (4) and slugging percentage (.568). Dunn's .415 batting average is ranked 12th in the NCAA. Dunn has also reached base safely in a staggering 30 straight games.
Cruising Towards the Stolen Base Record
Dunn in 29 games this season already has the 10th most stolen bases in a single-season in school history with 20. The current single-season record of 31 is held by Joel DeVisser back in 1998.
One of the Nation's Top Offenses
With a team batting average of .291, WMU ranks 41st in the NCAA and third in the MAC. The Broncos have posted seven double digit run games this season and have
recorded double digit hits in 16 of their 29 games.
First Things First
WMU has scored first in all nine of its victories this season.
Sweet O'Keefe
Sophomore
Sean O'Keefe leads the team with six multi-RBI games this season. The Saline, Mich., native has one two-RBI game, three three-RBI games and two four-RBI
games. O'Keefe registered a career-high four RBIs back on March 29 at Toledo.
Scouting the Competition
Northern Illinois enters the weekend with an overall record of 10-22 and is 6-3 in MAC play. Last weekend NIU swept Ohio in DeKalb, outscoring the Bobcats, 17-9. In midweek action on Tuesday, the Huskies fell to UIC, 15-10.
Offensively the Huskies are led by Brendan Joyce who leads the team with a .291 batting average. On the mound, RHP Ryan Anderson leads the team with a 2.82 earned run average.
