KALAMAZOO, Mich. - The Western Michigan men's tennis team is set for its first pair of Mid-American Conference home matches this weekend, hosting the University at Buffalo on Friday, March 22 at 6 p.m. and Binghamton University Saturday at 1 p.m.
LAST TIME OUT
Western Michigan opened conference play last weekend in Muncie, Ind., defeating Ball State 5-2 and Northern Illinois 7-0, marking WMU's fourth consecutive 2-0 start to the MAC schedule.Â
OPITZ NAMED MAC SINGLES PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Jannik Opitz earned the MAC singles weekly accolade after going 2-0 at the No. 1 spot versus Ball State and NIU. Opitz defeated Nemanja Guzina from Ball State 6-4, 6-0 on Friday prior to taking a three-set victory over NIU's Eric Marbach on Saturday, improving to 10-3 on the season. Additionally, Opitz has previously earned MAC Doubles honors twice in 2019, last with partnerÂ

MAC HOME OPENERS
WMU defeated NIU 6-1 during last season's MAC home opener at West Hills Athletic Club. The Broncos are unbeaten during their last four conference home-opening matches dating back to 2015.Â
ABOUT BUFFALO
The Bulls opened MAC play last weekend with wins over Binghamton and Toledo, while the top duo of Ethan Nittolo and Hao Sheng Koay won both of their matches to earn MAC Doubles Team of the Week honors. A season ago, Buffalo finished third in the MAC at 5-2 and fell to WMU in the tournament championship match.Â
ABOUT BINGHAMTON
Last season, the Bearcats went 1-6 in the MAC, including a 6-1 loss to WMU. Binghamton opened MAC play last weekend with a pair of losses, falling to Buffalo and Toledo and are set to continue action this afternoon at NIU.Â
REIGNING MAC CHAMPIONS
Last season, the Broncos finished 7-0 in the MAC while winning both the conference regular season title and the MAC Tournament Championship, the program's 24th regular season title and 12th MAC Tournament title. Western Michigan was one of 16 teams in the NCAA Tournament with 20+ wins and rode an 11-match winning streak into the 64-team championship. WMU had its season end in the first round of the NCAA Tournament, falling 4-1 against No. 25-ranked Notre Dame.
