KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The 10th-ranked Western Michigan hockey team fell to No. 1 St. Cloud State, 8-2, at Lawson Ice Arena on Saturday.
The Huskie jumped out to a 7-0 lead, scoring three goals in the first period and four in the second period.
Senior Will Massey made his collegiate debut in net, coming in relief to start the third period. Massey gave up one goal and made eight saves in the period.
Dawson DiPietro broke up the shutout with a goal at 1:39 in the first period. Wade Allison threaded the needle to spring DiPietro on a breakaway and he punched in his own rebound for his fifth goal of the season, cutting the lead to 7-1.
After a goal by SCSU's Patrick Newell pushed the lead to 8-1, Allison netted his fourth goal of the season. Colt Conrad split the St. Cloud State's defensemen with a pass to set up Allison for the breakaway. Conrad picked up his 21st assist on the goal and DiPietro tallied his ninth.
Western Michigan closes out the 2018-19 regular season on the road at Miami next weekend. Friday's game starts at 7:37 p.m. and Saturday's begins at 7:07 p.m. Both can be seen live on NCHC.tv or heard live on the Bronco Radio Network.
