Box Score 2 CLEARWATER, Fla.- Western Michigan softball began its 13-game road trip in Florida on Friday and picked up the first win of the season, defeating Incarnate Word, 2-0. The Broncos faced Iowa earlier in the afternoon, falling 6-1.
Junior center fielder
Kaylen Glenfield drove in both of WMU's runs in the victory over Incarnate Word and batted 3-for-3 in the game.
Senior third baseman
Skyler Sobeski drew a leadoff walk for the Broncos in the bottom of the third. With two outs, Glenfield hit her second double of the season to score pinch runner
Maggie Kehoe and give the Broncos a 1-0 lead.
Sobeski also got the offense going in the fifth with a one-out single. With runners at second and third, Glenfield delivered a single for her second RBI of the game. The Broncos had the bases loaded with one out but could not push another run across. Â
Sophomore pitcher
Sydney Stefanick (1-2) allowed just one hit over seven innings and struck out five in the winning effort.
Western Michigan was limited to just two hits in the first game of the day against Iowa. Junior
Samantha Pico hit her first career double, while sophomore
Logan Carter collected a single.
Senior pitcher
Jordan Kurth suffered the loss, allowing eight hits. Three of the six runs were earned.
Western Michigan (1-6) will play two games tomorrow. The Broncos take on No. 13 ranked South Carolina at 12:30 p.m. and Binghamton at 5:30 p.m.
