ALLENDALE, Mich./AMES, Iowa – Wins the 200-meter dash and 800-meter run highlighted the Western Michigan track and field team's performance at the Grand Valley State Big Meet and the Iowa State Classic on Friday.
Over at ISU, Madison Meredith won the 200 with an indoor personal-best time of 24.50 seconds. When converted for track distance, the time of 24.70 ranks seventh all-time on WMU's Indoor Performance List. Junior Erica Sheahan took second place in the long jump with a distance of 18' 9.25" (5.72m).
At the GVSU Big Meet, Sarah Anderson took the top spot in the 800. Anderson had an indoor personal-best time of 2:07.38, finishing over a second ahead of any other competition in the race. Freshman Chloe McEachern also had an indoor personal-best with a time of 2:14.92, winning her heat.
Senior Maria McDaniel had the Broncos' top time in the 5,000-meter run at 17:03, while Brittany Hall had a personal-best time of 17:58.58. Hall had led her race up until the final 200 meters. Rebecca McNamee, 18:24.54, and Olivia VandePol, 19:10.83, also had personal-bests in the event.
Senior Diana Holsey took seventh overall in the 60-meter hurdles after running a time of 9.04 seconds. In the throws, sophomore Aniya Davis finished in sixth in the weight throw with a distance of 53' 3.5" (16.24m), just shy of a new personal best. Freshman Madison Ochs finished sixth overall in the shot put after throwing a distance of 42' 11.75" (13.10m).
The Broncos are back in action at both meets on Saturday.
