LAKEWOOD RANCE, Fla. – The Western Michigan golf team is set to resume its season as it travels to Lakewood Ranch, Fla., for the annual Mid-American Match Play Challenge, hosted by Bowling Green, at the Lakewood Ranch Golf and Country Club on Monday and Tuesday.
Seventh-seeded WMU opens play against Morehead State early Monday morning. If the Broncos win, they will take on Northern Illinois on Monday afternoon.
The Broncos have not competed since the Lady Blue Hen Invitational at Delaware back on Oct. 20-21.
"Coming off winter break, it always takes a few days to get back into the swing of indoor practices again," said head coach Elise Swartout-Mosher. "However, this group of players has put in a lot of hard work. We are excited to take it out onto grass this weekend and compete."
This is the lone match play tournament that Western Michigan will compete in this season.
"Match play is a great way for us to get our spring season started," added Swartout-Mosher. "You think differently around the course because you are more aware of what your opponent is doing. The only coaching adjustment is that we have talked more course management strategy leading up to the tournament."
WMU takes a week off before hosting the annual Rio Verde Invitational at the Rio Verde Country Club in Rio Verde, Ariz., on Feb. 22-24.
