KENT, Ohio – The Western Michigan track and field team scored in the long jump, distance medley relay and set a new school record in the 60-meter dash to highlight day one of the 2019 Indoor Mid-American Conference Championships at Kent State University on Friday.

WMU totaled six points on the day and sits just 13 points out side of the top five.

Junior Erica Sheahan took five points after a fourth-place finish in the long jump. Sheahan turned reached a personal-best distance of 19' 7" (5.97m) on her second jump of the day and the distance carried her through the finals.

The team of Chloe McEachern, Haley Ritesma, Alex Bryant and Courtney Allen combined to run a time of 12:11.67 and earn a point after an eighth place finish in the distance medley relay. Allen ran the final leg and was able to edge out runners from Bowling Green and Central Michigan to score for the Broncos in dramatic fashion.

In the 60-meter dash it was Madison Meredith running a blazing time of 7.48 seconds to qualify for Saturday's finals. Meredith's time broke the old school record of 7.51 set by Ashley Hunault back in 2010. Her time was also the second-fastest in qualification. Meredith will also compete in the finals of the 200-meter dash on Saturday. The junior ran a time of 24.23 seconds to secure qualification.

Sarah Anderson also comfortably qualified in the finals of the 800-meter run. Anderson, who broke the school record in the event last weekend, ran a time of 2:11.67 for the second-fastest time of the day.

Senior Allison Hufnagel just missed out on scoring in the pentathlon after finishing in 10th with 3,310 points.

The Broncos are back at it on Saturday, starting at noon.
