LOUISVILLE, Ky./ALLENDALE, Mich. -- The Western Michigan track and field team concluded an excellent weekend of competition at the Clark Wood Open and GVSU Extra Weekend with multiple top-10 marks in program history.
Soniya Jones was great in the 200, earning the sixth-best time in program history. She concluded the race with a time of 24.08.
Laurie-Ann Desormes was also great in the race, earning a time of 25.43. The duo also competed in the 100-meter dash. Jones recorded an 11.63, while, Desormes tallied a PR time of 11.97.
Competing in just her second meet,
Katie Nichols was able to move into sixth all-time in the javelin. She had a top throw of 32.38 meters. Then, in the 800,
Emma Henkel would collect the 10th best time in program history. She secured a time of 2:10.05.
Joy Evans and
Rebekah Asselin were also strong in the event, registering times of 2:13.90 and 2:14.96, respectively.
The final top-10 mark of the weekend would go to
Madison Zarembski, as she was able to produce the seventh best 3K steeplechase time in program history. She crossed the finish line in a time of 10:51.75.
Kaelin Hughes wasn't too far behind her, earning a time of 11:10.05.
The dominance didn't stop there, as
Mabinty Kebe claimed first in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 58.49. Right behind her were
Mickaliliah Vassell (1:02.24) and
Jade Celestine (1:03.17).
Madison Clor then had a great race in the 1500, securing a PR time 4:42.92.
Larissa McGrath (4:58.66) and
Lauren Sancrant (5:13.08) had strong times as well. A little later,
Laurine Elisa Marimon put together a tremendous effort in the triple jump. She notched a mark of 12.84 meters. That would've been the school record, but the jump was not wind legal.
Anichka Malachi delivered a jump of 11.66 meters in the event as well.
In the long jump, the Broncos had a quartet of great performances.
Sandra Ferrari led the way with a leap of 6.27 meters. Marimon wasn't too far behind her with a top mark of 5.73 meters. Malachi would then earn a jump of 5.40 meters and
Layla Wallace would go for a mark of 5.38 meters.
Moving back to the throws,
Tess Van Dyk was sensational in the shot put. She finished second with a mark of 14.29 meters. Behind her were
Lane Hagens (13.63 meters) and
Sierra Sommers (13.04 meters). The attention would then go to the hammer throw, with Sommers notching a PR mark of 49.70 meters. To close out the throwing events, Van Dyk (40.77 meters) and Hagens (37.72 meters) performed well in the discus.
As the meet started to wind down, the Brown and Gold did not cool off. In the 100-meter hurdles, Ferrari claimed a strong time of 13.81. Kebe (14.04) and Celestine (14.34) were right behind her.
In the 5K,
Shannon Gillahan was able to collect a time of 18:40.26. To close out the weekend, WMU's 4x100 relay team was able to nab a time of 46.32. The Brown and Gold's quartet consisted of Jones, Kebe, Desormes and Vassell.

The Broncos will conclude the regular season with a pair of meets next weekend. WMU will be in action at the Jesse Owens Classic and the Gary Weineke Memorial.
