KALAMAZOO, Mich. – Western Michigan women's soccer senior midfielder Lydia Bajema has been named First Team CoSIDA Academic All-District by the College Sports Information Directors of America.
The 2019 Academic All-District® Women's Soccer Team, selected by CoSIDA, recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom. Because Bajema was a first team selection she moves on and is eligible for Academic All-American honors, which will be announced in early December.
Bajema boasts a 3.94 GPA in industrial and entrepreneurial engineering. The Grand Rapids, Mich., native marshalled the midfield throughout the 2019 season, starting in all 19 games. She consistently broke up attacks from her position, helping lead the team to four shutouts on the season. Bajema scored her first collegiate goal on Oct. 4 at Central Michigan. The tally was the lone goal of the game, leading the Broncos to a 1-0 win and giving CMU its first loss of the season.,
She wrapped up her career with 41 games played as a Bronco, with a career-high 19 coming in 2019. She earned Academic All-Mid-American Conference honors in 2017 and is on pace to earn the same honors this season.
Bajema's recognition marks the third straight season that WMU has had a First Team Academic All-District selection and she is the sixth Bronco all-time in program history to earn the honors.
