Kennosuke Nouchi represented Western Michigan at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) All-American Championships in Tulsa, Okla.
Kuszynski and Nouchi were placed in the pre-qualifying singles draw that took occurred over the weekend, while Opitz was automatically placed into the qualifying round that commenced on Monday.
Peter went 1-1, defeating Patrick Sklenka of Air Force in straight sets (6-3, 6-4), before falling to Ethan Leon from SMU in his second match on Saturday. Kennosuke lost to James Story of Memphis in the first round of pre-qualifying.
Jannik defeated #74 Rian Pandole from Columbia yesterday afternoon in comeback fashion after dropping the first set. He has now defeated two nationally ranked opponents this fall, following his victory over Olivier Stuart of Mercer at the ITA Oracle Masters in Malibu, Calif., last week.
Opitz fell in the second round of singles qualifying to Aditya Vashitsha from St. Johns earlier today.
In doubles, the #36 nationally ranked team of
Jannik Opitz and
Kennosuke Nouchi took care of Nico Borter and Gui Osorio from San Diego in their opening qualifying round contest (7-5, 6-1), before dropping their second match to a pair representing Central Florida.
Western Michigan will have participants at the ITA Midwest Regionals next week in Columbus, Ohio. Â
