Scouting the Broncos
Western Michigan heads into the weekend against it's in-state rivals with an overall record of 12-10, 3-7 in conference play. Last weekend at home, WMU defeated Ohio in five sets before falling to Kent State in five. The Broncos have played four straight five-set matches.
Bontrager Named Player of the Week
Junior outside hitter
Rachel Bontrager was named MAC West Offensive Player of the Week on Monday after posting 43 kills in two matches last weekend. Against Kent State, Bontrager collected a season-high 24 kills and was one shy of her career-high.
Lucky 13
Rachel Bontrager has recorded double-digit kills in a career-high 13 straight matches. Bontrager hasn't had less than 10 kills in a match since Sept. 14 at Milwaukee.
Really Diggin' It
Senior
Kathleen Reilly continues her stellar senior campaign, ranking seventh in the NCAA in total digs (479) and 15
th in the NCAA in digs per set (5.38). Earlier this season, Reilly became the third player in program history to eclipse 2,000 career digs.
Double-Double Phillips
Sophomore
Meredith Phillips has been on a tear as of late, registering three straight double-doubles. During the streak, Phillips has 52 kills and 35 digs.
Scouting the Opponent
Central Michigan (18-4, 8-2 MAC) – Central Michigan currently sits atop the MAC West division and is coming off a 1-1 record last weekend, defeating Akron before falling to Buffalo. The Chippewas have been stellar at home this season with a 6-2 record and are led by Kalina Smith with 211 kills. Earlier this season, CMU defeated WMU in three sets.
Eastern Michigan (8-14, 3-7 MAC) – Prior to its match with the Broncos the Eagles host Northern Illinois on Friday at 7:00 p.m. To open up MAC play, Western Michigan defeated EMU in three sets on Sept. 27.
